Our mission is to create a space where members of our community can share personal stories, reflections, and perspectives that uplift, inspire, and empower. Here, we honor diverse voices and encourage contributions on themes of resilience, unity, social justice, empowerment, and navigating today’s challenges with dignity and purpose.
What We’re Looking For
Themes and Topics
We invite essays that resonate with the Great Dames community, particularly those centered on the following themes:
Leadership Journeys – Your pivotal moment of transformation, lessons learned from unexpected challenges, or when you chose to lead differently.
Community Impact – How mentorship changed your trajectory, building bridges across differences, or creating lasting change through collaboration.
Future Forward – Your vision for leadership in 2030, breaking down systemic barriers, or innovations that will reshape opportunity.
Breaking Barriers – Navigating uncharted territory, turning obstacles into opportunities, or creating new paths for others.
Mentorship Moments – The mentor who changed everything, becoming the mentor you needed, or reverse mentoring experiences.
Tone and Style
Authenticity is Key: We value vulnerability, honesty, and stories that feel genuine and relatable.
Engaging and Reflective: Essays should encourage readers to connect, reflect, and, when possible, take action.
Conversational Tone: Write as if you’re speaking to a friend, balancing warmth with clarity and respect.
Avoid Formality: We want readers to feel both informed and inspired, so steer clear of overly formal language.
Format and Length
Word Count: 800-1,200 words, including a brief introduction (1-2 paragraphs).
Structure: Essays should have a clear beginning, middle, and end, with a takeaway or call to action.
Author Bio: Please include a short bio (2-3 sentences) about yourself and your connection to Great Dames. Feel free to add social media handles if you’d like.
Originality and Respect
Submit only work that is your own, original writing.
Ensure a tone that aligns with Great Dames’ values of inclusivity, empathy, and support.
If referencing specific people, events, or sensitive topics, please approach them with care and integrity.
Submission Process
How to Submit
Please submit your essay through our Great Dames Essay Submission Form. This form will guide you through the process and allow you to upload your essay directly.
Before you submit, make sure to have the following ready:
Your essay as a Word document or PDF.
Your essay title.
A short author bio (2-3 sentences).
Review Process
Each essay will be reviewed for alignment with our mission and values.
Our editorial team may suggest edits or request revisions to enhance clarity, impact, and cohesion.
Accepted essays will be scheduled for publication, with contributors notified prior to the release date.
Frequency and Schedule
We plan to publish essays monthly (or bi-monthly), highlighting one or two pieces per release.
What Happens Next?
Accepted essays will be featured on our website, social media, and in our newsletter, amplifying your voice within our community and beyond.
